Learn to engineer worldwide solutions in the Caribbean
Following your fall semester at ASU, join a cohort of other Fulton Schools of Engineering students and professors on an engineering deep dive in the Dominican Republic over winter break. During your program you'll see first-hand the everyday engineering challenges for the unique tropical climate conditions, resource constraints and community needs in the Dominican Republic. You'll develop your global competence, professional communication skills and systems-thinking that is essential to modern, global engineering, making you a better engineer.
What you'll do
While in-country, you'll learn from guest lectures, local engineers and industry professionals, through site visits to engineering facilities and infrastructure projects. Collaborate and network with engineering students and faculty from the Dominican Republic's premier engineering University, the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC). Experience Caribbean life through excursions to Los Tres Ojos Cave National Park and Los Haitises National Park. See the mountains and rural life in Manantial el Naranjito. Listen to Bonye Music and hike the El Salto de Limón through tropical, cocoa and coffee forests to a stunning 130-foot waterfall.

Location
Dominican Republic
During the study abroad program, you'll stay in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Samana, Dominican Republic. In Santo Domingo, you'll engage with the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), a leading engineering and technology university, as part of your academic experience. You'll be immersed in sustainable infrastructure and environmental systems within a Caribbean island context. You'll see both the main economic and commercial center of the Central American-Caribbean area in Santo Domingo, as well as the Atlantic coastal beaches and mountains in Samana.
