Semester abroad vs. a semester at ASU

Curious about how much a Global Education Office semester program costs in comparison to what you pay here at ASU? Take a look at our Comparing Semester Program Costs resource to see how affordable studying abroad for a semester can be.

Compare the cost of a semester abroad to a semester at ASU

The following items are also worth noting:

  • Remember that the Program Fee for Partnership, Faculty Directed and Global Intensive Experience programs include housing; Exchange programs do not. Therefore, although the cost of a semester Partnership program may be higher than the cost of a semester Exchange program, keep in mind that the total cost of attendance for the Partnership program could end up being less, taking into consideration that housing is almost always included in the Partnership but not in the Exchange.
  • Research what the Program Fee includes on Partnership, Faculty Directed and Global Intensive Experience programs. We’ve already established that your program fee will include housing, but it will definitely include other costs as well. Consider the value-add of the Program Fee to find out how inclusive your Program Fee is.  Does it include meals? Transportation? Excursions? Entrance Fees?
  • The length of your program can also have a real effect on the cost. Make sure that you check dates on the programs you are comparing. One may be more expensive than another, but you might also be abroad for several more weeks. Divide the fee by the number of weeks of your program for a quick comparison.  However, don’t forget to consider the bullet point above for other ways to compare costs between programs!
  • Exchanges are an incredible opportunity because you just pay your ASU tuition, and you study somewhere else in the world. However, consider all the other expenses that you incur while going to school at ASU: housing, food, transportation, insurance, etc. When you go on an Exchange, think of it like picking up your life (and all associated expenses) here and setting it down somewhere else in the world for a semester or year. Just as here at ASU, you will have additional expenses besides your tuition when you participate in an Exchange program.
